The WOOE Challenge

The “Desafío WOOE” (“WOOE Challenge”) is the culinary competition within the World Olive Oil Exhibition intended for professional chefs.

On the 18th of March, the first Challenge will be to create a salad which has extra virgin olive oil as a key ingredient. The EVOO used will come from the PDOs of Castile-La Mancha: Aceites de la Alcarria, Campo de Calatrava, Campo de Montiel and Montes de Toledo. The competition is sponsored by the Agricultural, Environment and Development Council of Castile-La Mancha and the winner will be awarded 1,200 €.

On the 19th of March, the second Challenge will seek out the best gazpacho based on Andalusian olive oils. The EVOO used will come from the PDOs of Andalusia. The chefs participating will have a Thermomix at their disposal for this culinary challenge. The winner will be awarded 1,500 €.

The 1st WOOE Challenge was held in 2019 and the winner was Manu Urbano, chef at Madrid’s restaurant La Malaje, with his dish “Remojón Andaluz de Bacalao” (a salad based on orange and cod).
