• Many olive-growing companies are investing in taking care of our planet and, therefore, they have a crucial appointment at this area of the Exhibition.

  • In this article, we take a tour of the value chain and what these companies from the olive oil industry are innovating.

The olive-growing industry is maximizing each step of the value chain and one of their priorities is environmental protection. The World Olive Oil Exhibition, which will be held on the 18th and 19th of March 2020 in Madrid, has developed the Expoliva Area, which represents a great opportunity in order to have a first-hand experience of learning how the companies that are revolutionizing the olive oil sector encourage environmental sustainability.

One tonne of olives makes 27% of olive oil and 73% of olive pomace paste (alperujo), according to the AAE (Andalusia Energy Agency). This 73% is already a reality for bioenergy, which is the energy generated through biomass thanks to the efforts carried out by institutions such as Jaén’s Olive Oil Group, which receives 1% of the overall olive volume produced in Jaen, the plant called Bioland Energy, which processes 10% of the alperujo of the aforementioned region in La Carolina (Jaen). This is the future for the re-use of the rest of effluents such as fertilizers, animal feed or compost.

The Agroisa Group, that brings together Agroisa, Intecbio and Inmecal alongside the cooperative “SCA San Francisco de Asís de Montefrío”, GEA Westfalia Separator Ibérica, Cano Marchal Europa, Agroinsur Engineers, the University of Jaen and the University of Granada, is carrying out the project Cardiolive, which implements food supplements from olive-growing products in order to prevent cardiovascular diseases.

CBH Agro provides one of the best proposals for the conversion of old olive plantations via Renovoliva. It offers the advice and necessary resources in order to carry out the restructuring of groves with the aim to attain a more efficient, sustainable and profitable production model for the growers. Furthermore, Renovoliva completes the full cycle: plants, advices, fertigates and harvests; all of this with the highest standards of environmental sustainability.

Jaén EVOO Plastic Free is an initiative led by the University of Jaen, in which the Technological Centre for Plastic “Andaltec”, the company “Elaia Zait” and the company “Castillo de Canena Olive Juice” participate. This initiative aims to find an alternative to one-time-use plastic and the removal of plastics as part of the olive sector’s industry as quickly as possible.

If you would like to discover more projects like these or make your company’s project known, you have a not-to-be-missed event at the WOOE’s Expoliva Area.
